TheSummer Backpack Program
Any child who lives in Juniata County, participates in the Free/Reduced Lunch Program at school, and completed kindergarten through 8 th grade is invited to sign-up for the Juniata County Food Pantry Summer Backpack Program each year in May/June (at the end of the school year).
Qualifying students will receive a free backpack and may visit the Juniata County Food Pantry with their parent(s) once a month during summer vacation to receive a box full of nutritious lunches. Lunches include a main course, a fruit choice, a snack, and either milk or juice.
Parents may call the Food Pantry at 436-9718 to make an appointment to register their child(ren) and receive their first month of lunches. Families that are also clients of the Food Pantry may receive their regular groceries at the same time. To register, an adult who has legal custody must bring the student(s), a photo ID, and an Access Card, if possible, belonging to the student or custodial adult.
Students who reside at the Richfield or East Waterford ends of the county may register and pick up their lunches during the Food Pantry’s monthly outreach to those areas by contacting the Juniata County Food Pantry. The Backpack Program will continue until the end of summer vacation.
